Tips For Trips

There is no way to guarantee you won't have a bad trip, but if you follow these tips you can bring the chance down to almost zero.

Set and Setting

You hear about this a lot when people are talking about psychedelics. This has got be the number one tip and the best advice for reducing the chances of having a bad trip.

  • The set refers to your mind state going into the trip. People that mentally prepare for a mushroom trip generally have better results, but there are spontaneous mushroom eaters that still have fun.
  • The setting refers to your surrounding situation and the people you are with. I would say this is more important than the first one. Once again, preparation is key. Coming up with a rough idea of some sort of plan for the next 4-5 hours is always a good idea. Having time constraints or having to deal with real life problems can totally ruin a good trip. I find the best results always outdoors in a nature setting, usually in a secluded area that can allow for deep meditation. The people you're with is equally important if not more. Best to go with a small group of friends that you know and trust.  If you're not an experienced user and you're lucky enough to know one or two, those are best people to bring along, provided you get along and vibe with them well. They can really help walk you through a bad trip.  I would not recommend going alone unless you are a very experienced user and know the area well where you are. Be sure to never drive while high on shrooms

Dose

Dose is obviously a huge factor in determining what kind of trip you're going to have. There are guidelines you can follow but there are never any guarantees.

  • Certain people can be more sensitive to certain types of mushrooms than others. Other factors to take into consideration are the potency of the mushrooms. Also, certain parts of the mushroom can contain more psilocybin than others, and it's not always in the caps. The stems are full of psilocybin as well. That being said, using the exact same dose of the same mushrooms, one user could potentially get higher than the other. This although would be only marginal and probably rarely noticed.
  • They always say it's best to start with a small dose to make sure you're comfortable with the feeling and don't throw yourself into a bad trip. It's important to know what you want to get out of the experience. If you're just looking for fun and recreation, I would recommend starting small-small being 1-2 grams. If you're looking for something deep and spiritual, and you have mentally prepared for it, I would recommend starting with the average 2-3.5 gram dose. I always admire those that throw themselves right into it, however it can be overwhelming and uncomfortable at times and it may turn you away from the whole experience. Once you're experienced you can increase the dose as you feel comfortable to carry on your mushroom journey.

Fasting

How much food you have in your stomach and when you ate will play a massive role in determining your trip. People that fast before doing a mushroom trip can almost always guarantee a heavier trip. Some serious users fast for 24 hours or even more. I would not recommend that unless you are really experienced and hardcore. Generally if you're planning to trip in the afternoon, I would recommend you have breakfast, and skip lunch and have the shrooms instead. Once you get high you won't realize you're hungry.  As the trip wears off, you'll definitely feel the hunger setting in. At this point you'll be ready for a meal and it will be the most satisfying way to end the experience. If you do eat a meal in close proximity to when you eat the mushrooms, it can affect the trip greatly. It can take a lot longer to set in and the effects won't be as strong. Some users have reported not feeling any effects at all when taking a smaller dose shortly after eating a meal.

Tolerance

Tolerance is a huge factor, meaning you gain a tolerance after doing shrooms. If you wait long enough, which is actually like a full 2 weeks, your tolerance should be back to where it was. People that like to trip a lot generally wait 3-4 days in between. You can still get the effects, but it's definitely not going to be the full effects.  If you have been micro-dosing and want to do a full trip, you would need to consider that your tolerance will be up a little more.
