No. You cannot physically overdose from psilocybin mushrooms.
That's not to say there aren't any risks involved. You could have what is called a psychological overdose during a bad trip. This is generally only a temporary thing and is almost always because someone didn't mentally and physically prepare. That being said, there have been cases of people having long term psychosis problems. However it is very uncommon with mushrooms (more common with acid) and in the rare cases when it does happen it's with people that had previous underlying mental health issues.
You can never guarantee a good trip. But there are things you can do to almost guarantee it.
See my page Tips for Trips for the best tips.
There are different levels of a bad trip. It could be feeling discomfort to having a full-on panic attack. The biggest thing to remember is that when it comes to mushrooms, the trip will end. It could feel like you're stuck in it forever, especially because it changes your perception of time, making minutes feel like hours at times. This is perfect if you're having a good trip, but if it's the opposite it could feel like a nightmare. The biggest thing is just to remember it will end. The next day things will be totally normal compared to how they are at the moment of your bad trip. Having an experienced user around is one of the best things. Coming from someone who has been there before, reassurance from them could be your life saver. The onset of the shrooms can be very overwhelming for a lot of people. There have been a lot of cases where someone started off having a bad trip and they were able to overcome it and went on to have an amazing experience.
When it comes to the type of shrooms, I would say not to be too picky. Just make sure you know what you're getting. If you have options, I would recommend Golden Teachers . They provide the textbook mushroom high.
The dose is obviously very important. See my article under Tips For Trips for information on that.
No. The stems and the caps both contain psilocybin.
It was believed for a long time only the caps have psilocybin in them. There have been some cases where they have found more in the stems than they did in the caps. Therefore both the stems and the caps will you get you high.
They are both a psychedelic and have a lot of things in common.
Psilocybin and psilocin are the main natural chemicals in mushrooms that get you high. In acid it's lysergic acid diethylamide. This is extracted from a fungi called ergot. Both of these chemicals hit the same receptors in the brain and their properties overlap. The big difference is acid goes through a chemical synthetization process. The problem with acid is you never really know the quality of what you're getting.
In terms of comparing the highs, the onset of shrooms is really fast and at times can be overwhelming. Acid comes in very slow and mellow and lasts a lot longer. The best way I can describe it: acid is like taking a mushroom trip and stretching it out over 12 hours. Mushrooms are like a compressed acid trip - more intense but doesn't last nearly as long. As a user of both, I think mushrooms are a lot more fun, but under the right conditions and circumstances they both have their place.
Sort of. They say the longer you keep them, the less potent they become.
However, I've found old shrooms that I had stored and they got me really high. So who's really to say? One thing I know for sure, keep them out of moisture and sunlight. Do not leave them stored outside or in a car. A cool dry place is most important. They should last for as long as you need them if you follow those simple guidelines.
